Route 207 and Route 138 form an east-west corridor in this part of the state; the nearest parallel routes are Route 2 to the south, and Route 14 to the north.

Route 207 is one of the longest state highways whose entire length is part of the state Scenic Route System. The state added the route on June 6, 2022, at the prompting of Lebanon Town Planner Phil Chester and Financial Officer Nick Velles of The Last Green Valley, a non-profit representing 35 towns in eastern Connecticut and Massachusetts.

"Exeter Road (Route 207) embodies Lebanon’s intrinsic connection to agriculture and the American Revolution,” Chester said. “Containing over 1,500 acres of farmland, historic Lebanon Green, the Governor Trumbull House, and other revolutionary-era homesteads and gathering places, Route 207 is a unique landscape worthy of State designation as a Scenic Road."
