Here's a blast from the past: a solitaire game I wrote for M$ Windows in 1992.
Spider runs fine on Windows 98, and is still addictive enough to be a serious
time-waster. To my knowledge, this is the only game to feature Howard Chen, Tom
Shane, and Interstate 284 on face cards (shown at left).
In 50 words or less...
Spider is a two-deck solitaire game. Your object is to organize all 104 cards
into suits by rank and clear the table. You won't need to drag cards around; just
click the card you want to move and Spider figures out where it should go.
Complete rules and tips are included in the help file.
Cool stuff
All 12 face cards are unique, and their stories are explained in the help file.
You can back up as many moves as you want, and if you get stuck, you can tell Spider
to suggest a move.
Spider also offers a Spanish-language interface; select "Español" in Options.
Download
Spider runs on Windows 3.1, 95, and 98. I haven't tested it on NT, but it should work
there as well. It's not bleeding edge by any means. The zip file contains the application,
a help file, a Borland custom control DLL (bwcc.dll), and an icon file. You're best off
leaving the DLL in the same directory as Spider.
Download (Windows 3.1, 95, 98): spider.zip
Notes
Spider is offered as is. I don't even have the compiler for it anymore (Turbo Pascal for
Windows) so making any changes would require a complete port. I'll never get around to it.
Spider is free but copyrighted; you can give it away to anyone under the same conditions.
Spider's English interface is patterned after my friend Linda Yu, so it might strike you
as a little abrupt. Also, it doesn't detect when you win, so you'll need to select a new game
manually.
